FLL Explore Updates

Latest Update: No Updates so far for FLL Explore

What is FIRST® LEGO® League Explore ?

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore is an international STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program designed for young children. A recent change in Singapore has extended the age limit from 9 to 10 years old (Primary 4). To qualify for this in 2026, children must be between 6 and 10 years old, that means they need to be born between 2016 and 2020. The program introduces them to the basics of engineering, robotics, and teamwork through hands-on learning with LEGO® Education tools.

What Happens in FLL Explore?

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore is a renowned program internationally. It is a theme based challenge. Each season, teams are given topics such as oceans, energy, space, basically real-world topics. Once the kids choose the topic, they come with their ideas and solutions.

Next, with LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential or WeDo 2.0 kits, they build a working model with at least one moving part.  Apart from the model the teams also make a poster where they explain their journey, research done for the project and team story.

Finally the season ends with a celebration style festival. The teams share their models and posters with the judges, families, and other teams. There is no competition, every team is celebrated equally in this division.

Join the 2025-2026 FIRST® LEGO® League Explore Season

For the 2025–2026 season, the new theme titled “UNEARTHED™” has officially launched. While the detailed theme content is still to be confirmed, registration is now open. The Early Bird Discount is available until 15 November 2025, 10:00 PM SGT, and general registration closes on 31 January 2026, 10:00 PM SGT. Schools registered under MOE can also request a quotation as part of the registration process.

Teams in FLL Explore work together to research a topic, build a working LEGO® model with at least one moving part, and create a team poster explaining their journey. The experience concludes with a celebration-style showcase event, where students present their models and posters, interact with judges, peers and parents. There is an award ceremony where every team in the program receives a prize and certificate. Parents have a chance to take photos of their kids. The focus is on learning, sharing, and having fun, rather than winning.

Participation in FIRST® LEGO® League Explore not only builds STEAM skills but also develops essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and confidence. According to the broader FIRST® community statistics, 81% of alumni pursue STEM-related degrees, and 83% report having the confidence to take on leadership roles. Globally, over 679,000 students participated in FIRST programs between 2004 and 2023, with over 300 teams competing in Singapore across all FIRST® LEGO® League divisions last season.

Also, Duck Learning's learning centre and  STEAM Engine learning centre have started accepting teams for the program earlier than they usually do this year. Don't miss this opportunity, so register your team today to secure an early spot to start your project early.

Educators and parents often praise the program for its ability to combine educational best practices with engaging, real-world challenges. As Urvi Shah, Director of Educational Technology and Innovation, puts it: “It boosts confidence, builds collaborative skills, and is hands-on. It takes the best of pedagogy and brings it all together.”
