How does the Lego color sensor work?

LEGO color sensors can detect a range of colors, such as red, green, blue, yellow, white, and black. It can also be used to detect color variations in the environment, and with LEGO Mindstorms or similar platforms, it can be programmed to respond to these colors by triggering certain actions or behaviors in a robot or other LEGO build.
